We are a group of scientists interested in all things RNA. We promote new research from within our institution and beyond, for the advancement of RNA science and training. We are located at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

We are always looking for internal and external speakers for our future club events, so if you work on RNA and have a good story to tell, please get in touch with David or Julia! All speakers also receive one of these cool mugs. (Our meetings, for the time being, remain virtual.)

Founders

David Garcia
Assistant Professor

David Garcia received a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC Santa Cruz. He received his PhD from MIT in 2012, where he worked in David Bartel’s lab. He was a postdoc at Stanford University School of Medicine with Daniel Jarosz from 2013–2018 and then opened his lab at the beginning of 2019. His lab studies epigenetic regulation of RNA chemical modifications.

Julia Widom
Assistant Professor

Julia Widom earned her B.A. in Chemistry from Northwestern University in 2009. She did her graduate work at the University of Oregon in the lab of Andy Marcus, earning her Ph.D. in 2013. From 2014 to 2018, she worked as a postdoc in the lab of Nils Walter at the University of Michigan. She returned to UO as a faculty member in the Physical Chemistry division in September, 2018. Her lab uses ultrafast and single-molecule spectroscopy to study RNA structure and dynamics.
